Hobsons Bay Men's Shed Car Club visits Mobil Altona Refinery

On Tuesday 16 August 2016, members of the Hobsons Bay Men’s Shed Car Club were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of Altona Refinery.

The term Men's Shed refers to a location where men can meet and to the concept of a space where men talk, share skills, swap ideas, solve problems or just discuss life in general.

The Hobsons Bay Men's Shed has about 250 members and offers a range of activities and events for its members, providing an important social network to support the social, mental and physical well-being of men in our community who may be no longer working.

The Hobsons Bay Men’s Shed Car Club is a group of men with a passion for all things motoring. Naturally, this means they were keen to get a look inside Altona Refinery and learn more about how the refinery produces fuel as well as the different grades of fuel available for use in motor vehicles.

During the visit, the group were given an overview of Altona Refinery’s operations, its role in the local community and its contribution to the local and state economy. They were then treated to a guided bus tour through the refinery where they learned more about how the people of Altona Refinery are working to safely and efficiently produce fuel for Victoria.

Mobil provides access to a limited number of community groups interested in visiting Altona Refinery each year, as part of our community engagement program. We were pleased to provide this opportunity to support members of the Hobsons Bay Men’s Shed Car Club.
