Iconic brands get set for the fast lane

This year is shaping up as an exciting one for the Mobil brand and motorsport fans.

It marks the start of an historic partnership with the Red Bull Racing team in Formula 1, and an enhancement of the long-standing relationship with Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) in V8 Supercars.

Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo is set to fly the Mobil flag at the Melbourne Grand Prix this week after ExxonMobil became the Red Bull Racing Formula 1™ team’s official fuel, lubricant and motor oil partner in 2017.

On the touring car circuit, Mobil 1™ and Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) are sharing the naming rights of Supercars’ most prestigious race team. The joining of these two iconic brands and Walkinshaw, form the powerhouse trio behind the new Mobil 1™ HSV Racing team.

This partnership marks a new era in the team’s long and prestigious history in Australian motorsport.

“We have two of the most recognisable and longstanding partners in the sport – Mobil 1™ and HSV, who have come together as the naming rights sponsors of our new team,” said Team Owner Ryan Walkinshaw.

“Together with the extensive expertise in the Walkinshaw garage, we believe we are in a perfect position to kick-start our new chapter.”

The new team will share the major branding positions of the car through a rotational partnership model that delivers a range of unique liveries throughout the season. It will also be on show at Albert Park this week for the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix.

“For many years the iconic Mobil 1™ brand has remained a technology partner of the Walkinshaw Racing team, and in conjunction with our authorised lubricant distributors in Australia and New Zealand we are very excited to further enhance our relationship with the team for 2017,” said Mobil Motorsport Manager, Australia, Colin Smith.

Mobil 1™ HSV Racing also boasts a strong driver line-up including James Courtney and Scott Pye. Returning for the endurance season are Jack Perkins, who will team up with Courtney for a third consecutive year, and Warren Luff who will pair with Pye for the first time.

“The racetrack provides the perfect laboratory for our products where we can test their limits in the most extreme conditions,” said Colin. “We take lessons learned on race tracks around the world and apply them to the development of our products for the general motor market.”
