Employment opportunities at Altona Refinery

  • Altona Refinery is calling for people interested in starting a Refinery Operations Traineeship this year
  • Applications close at 4pm on 6 April 2016

Mobil continues to support the local economy and local jobs, currently looking for Trainee Operators to join the Altona Refinery team.

In conjunction with Apprenticeships Group Australia, the refinery is currently offering several positions under its Plant Operator Traineeship Program to talented and highly motivated individuals who are seeking an exceptionally rewarding career.

People with trade qualifications or an engineering background, including recent engineering graduates, may find a Plant Operator Traineeship an interesting and challenging career opportunity.

Like most businesses in Australia, the Altona Refinery is facing the challenges that come with an aging workforce.

Since 2007 the refinery has implemented an Operator Traineeship program which is a key part of the refinery’s strategy for sustaining a top-class operator workforce into the future.

“Mobil Altona Refinery makes a significant contribution to employment in Hobsons Bay, providing jobs for around 350 people and indirectly supporting thousands of other jobs,” said Altona Refinery Manager, Andrew Warrell.

“Our operator traineeship program means that we will continue to have a strong team of highly-skilled people who are capable of operating the refinery well into the future.”

Despite an increasingly tough local manufacturing environment, the Mobil Altona Refinery has not only survived, it has emerged as a thriving business and major supplier of fuel for Australia.

“A number of factors, including global crude oil markets and past investment decisions have combined to uniquely position Altona Refinery as a thriving business that continues to defy Australia’s tough manufacturing environment,” said Andrew.

In addition to the Operator Traineeship program, the refinery also offers opportunities for trade apprenticeships each year in conjunction with its alliance partner, Broadspectrum.

Applications for the Operator Traineeship Program will be managed in strict confidence and must be submitted by 4pm on 6 April 2016.
